Jon Shein Joins Everglades Kayak Fishing |

I've gotten a bunch of emails asking what I'm up to, where I am, what's on the horizon, etc. Many of you don't know but I'm a vagabond by nature. I love to wander and explore. I've done so most of my adult life. I've got a few things going on, all kayak fishing related. After the sale of KFS I spent a couple months in the Everglades and some kayak fishing guiding for Everglades Kayak Fishing. I liked the Everglades so much that I decided to spend several months here (this is where I am now) while I finish my kayak fishing book (which I anticipate releasing early spring of 2008). Over the summer I got my Captain's License, so I could operate one of the Yak Attacks. We use these mother ships to transport up to 6 kayak anglers to remote parts of the Everglades that would take a few to several days to reach otherwise. I live in a marina in Chokoloskee, which is a shell island originally built by the Indians. It was connected, via a causeway, to the mainland in the 60s. I'm right on the water and my backyard is spectacular. I regularly watch all manner of wildlife doing their thing. The Everglades are magnificent and in certain ways remind me of another favorite place, Baja. The diversity of life and environments here is astounding. The fishing's pretty good too. Often my biggest dilemma is where to go. Should I go out to the gulf, stay in the 10,000 Islands , hit the rivers from Choko, head into the backcountry off the Tamiami Trail? It's the biggest jigsaw puzzle I've ever seen. It's a complex ecosystem and you have to balance the affects of tide, wind, temperature, atmospheric pressure, time of day, moon phase, etc. I've got so many choices and too little time. So far I've caught snook, trout, redfish, tarpon, ladyfish, jack crevalle, Spanish mackerel and goliath grouper but that's just scratching the surface of what's available. I've pulled my baits away from several bull sharks too. If you're interested in fishing the Everglades I can be assist you and get you into a variety of fishing. For options check out the website at Evergladeskayakfishing.com and ask to be hooked up with Jon. Besides mother ship trips I offer launches from Chokoloskee and trailer launches throughout the region. Camping deep in the backcountry or on a sandy shored island. Some of my favorite fishing is for snook deep in the backcountry that I access via trailer. I'm also available for shuttle drop offs as I can haul 10 kayaks between my truck and trailer.
