Christmas Island Now Open for Kayak Fishing E-mail
Thursday, 01 December 2011 15:32

We are pleased to announce the first kayak fishing packages at Christmas Island beginning February 14th 2012. Christmas Island is located 1,200 miles south of Hawaii in the central pacific island nation of Kiribati. This Island is actually the world's largest coral atoll and a long time travel destination for fly fisherman. Finally kayak anglers will be able to fish the pristine inner lagoon and the off shore waters surrounding the atoll. Mother shipping will also be available for hire to kayak anglers. Kayak fishing packages are designed to accommodate anglers with a variety of activities provided by the Adventure Dive and Fishing Lodge. Reservations for kayak fishing packages on Christmas Island are being accepted by Coastal Kayak Tours. Air Pacific provides convenient once a week 737 jet service to Christmas Island from Honolulu Hawaii in the north and from Nadi, Fiji in the south. For the first year we are offering introductory kayak fishing package rates. These are the lowest available fishing package rates on the island. For complete details about these low rates and the spectacular kayak fishing at Christmas Island check out our new web site at www.christmasislandkayak fishing.com or contact David Elgas at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. What initially drew us to Christmas Island for kayak fishing was the allure of getting off the beaten path to catch some big fish. Christmas Island is well known for it's off shore pelagic fishing, giant trevally fishing, and fly fishing. The protected water of the inner lagoon is teaming with life and is best described like a giant aquarium. The massive and beautiful 120 square miles of lagoon is hard to put into words. It is so big that Captain Cook's men got lost in the lagoon when they first tried to explore it. Christmas Island is now considered a wildlife park and all of the fishing inside of the lagoon is catch and release. The lagoon opens to the sea on the north west side of the atoll. The daily tidal changes rise and fall thus filling and draining the lagoon to the ocean every day. Along this north west side of the atoll is the largest area of underwater coral reef. Most of the atoll drops quickly to 200 fathoms just off the shore line. Migrating pelagic fish are attracted to this atoll in the middle of the ocean as it offers them a rest and feeding grounds. Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Jacks and Billfish are all known to frequent the water offshore of the atoll. Traveling anglers are only allowed to take home 25 pounds of fish caught off shore at the atoll thus encouraging catch and release of pelagic species. Because the lagoon is all catch and release, recent reports reveal that 100 pound giant trevallies regularly come into the lagoon to feed on milk fish and the thriving bait eco system. Bone fishing and Jack fishing on the lagoon flats is an incredible experience. Large schools of fish travel onto the flats when the tide is high and it is amazing to see them feeding in such shallow waters.

There is much to see and to explore at Christmas Island. We hope you join Coastal Kayak Tours and the Adventure Dive and Fishing lodge to book a kayak fishing memory that will last a life time.
