Chris Reed got in touch recently from North Carolina, USA. A southern state, the boys in NC can fish all year long. In late Fall, looks like Largemouth Bass is top on the menu. From the pictures Reed sent, these guys really get to enjoy a beautiful landscape while pursuing big bass.

"Right about now, our club tries to target bass making that late fall-early winter transition. This is the time of year in North Carolina where schooling bass chase tons of bait balls. There are times you are sitting there in your yak, jigging some structure or doing some heavy duty cranking and all of a sudden, bass begin to explode on top of the water. As the excitement overwhelms you, you pause and think for a split second...What to throw?

"I tend to toss a topwater "cigar style" bait, preferably white, across the area in which they are schooling. Sometimes that does the job. At other times, I can get skunked easily. Our club just fished a tournament at Badin Lake, NC hosted by the Triad Area Kayak Anglers. The founders of Fayetteville Kayak Anglers, Chris Reed, Jason Longfellow and Josh Buckwalter, were there in full force.

"We camped out the night before and got up for an early launch. It was a tough day on the water with only one of us catching one fish, but we were out there for a greater cause- supporting Heroes on the Water. Around 300 dollars were raised to benefit this awesome cause.

"Our club tries to be a year round focal point for local kayak anglers in our area to have a source that can provide them guidance and information on future events, fundraisers, work shops, and just plain ole get togethers and yak fishing. I'd say all in all, one thing that makes the upcoming winter exciting for us is planning that weekend trip to the lake, setting up that camp site, sitting around the fire tying lines and prepping for a day on the water.

"It's something about the outdoors that draws us to it. But rest assured, if you can't find us in our kayaks on the water this time of year, then we are all hiding somewhere in the great wilderness in our tree-stands."
