by; FLFA Staff This past June 4th, the South Brevard Ducks Unlimited chapter held their 8th annual “Band the Slam” Charity Inshore Tournament out of Squid Lips Grill in Sebastian. This event is an annual fund raiser for D.U. with funds used towards the purchasing and preserving of wetlands in our area. 104 anglers participated in the yearly event, with anglers fishing for spotted sea trout and redfish, with the junior anglers fishing for jack crevalle, ladyfish and sheepshead. This event is sanctioned by the Florida Flatsfishing Association, so FLFA members were able to earn their end-of-season points for the circuit. And the winners were- 1st Place Trout – Garrett Adams of Vero Beach – 7.42 lbs. - $300.00 1st Place Redfish – Robert Bunker of Vero Beach – 6.25 lbs. - $300.00 2nd Place Trout – T.J. Kiefer of Ft. Pierce – 6.91 lbs. - $200.00 2nd Place Redfish – Doug Smith of Vero Beach – 6.00 lbs. - $200.00 3rd Place Trout – Richard Willis of Sebastian – 6.82 lbs. - $100.00 3rd Place Redfish – Dallas Lightner of Melbourne – 5.88 lbs. - $100.00 2-fish slam award – T.J. Kiefer of Ft. Pierce – 12.79 lbs. (one trout & redfish, heaviest combined weight) Junior Angler “Trash Can Slam Awards” (received trophies) 1st place – Colin Willis of Sebastian – 3 fish (jack, lady & sheepshead) totaling 3.21 lbs. 2nd Place – Jordan Cole of Vero Beach – 2 fish (jack & ladyfish) totaling 3.58 lbs. 3rd Place – Jacob Bailey of Vero Beach – 2 fish (jack & ladyfish) totaling 2.05 lbs Lady Angler Award – Connie Willis of Sebastian – 4.75 lb. trout - prizes Top Captain Award – Capt.
