Unless it's really cold outside, I'm ALWAYS wearing a baseball cap while fishing. They work great to keep the sun out of my eyes, but also block the light from my headlamp at night or on those pre-dawn go-outs. Yes, flipping the hat around works but we may now have something better. Nite Ize Inc. has a slew of products useful for the kayak angler. This outfit first caught my attention with their BrimLit visor lighting system. A clip-on LED designed to fit on the visor of your ball cap, the BrimLit may sound hokey but it really does work well, especially for tying on hooks in low light conditions. Powered by two lithium batteries, the BrimLit weighs only one ounce and features high and low modes with four LED lights. It is flexible and clips very securely to the underside of your visor for perfect hands-free lighting. http://www.niteize.com/collections/new-products/products/brimlit
Another useful and innovative item from Nite Ize is the MoonLit Area Light. This little gem puts out a bright ambient white light attached to a flexible gear tie. You can hang it or connect it to anything. My immediate thought was to wrap it on my rod tip as a "running light" for pre-dawn paddles. It puts out plenty enough light to read fine print. The MoonLit can operate with a strobe pattern or for continuous illumination. http://www.niteize.com/collections/led/products/moonlit
In the hand-held flashlight arena, NiteIze has long been recognized as one of the tops in the field. A standard choice amongst law enforcement and other first responders, the NiteIze INOVA LED handhelds offer durability, dependability and incredible long-distance illumination. It's true that the brighter the light, the shorter battery life one can expect. That's why NiteIze include three power levels on this precision engineered, lithium powered aluminum light. http://www.niteize.com/collections/inova-t-series
