The pelican

I have owned and fished the pelican for 3 seasons now. The fishing has been fantastic. We own 3 of them, but there is a flaw that everyone should be aware of. They use a 2 piece mold. One of our boats separated at one of the (? Scupper holes ?) My son was fishing the bay in Galveston when it let go, He swamped, capsized and was swept out. Luckily rescued by some fishermen after drifting for an hour. Needless to say we stay in the flats. I repaired it but I still don't think I will be buying another one.

pelican castaway 100

I am in my second season with the 100. It's my first Kayak and I love fishing out of the thing. The only draw back is the criss-cross bungee design on the back. I had one of the end buttons come off plus it doesn't accomplish a lot. I love the maneuverability and stability. My first time out I felt a little wobbly, but once I got the hang of it I find it very stable, even in a moderate wind or with a fish on. Absolutely would recommend it. For my next amazing feat, I am going to learn how to roll cast a fly rod out of it.

castaway 100/pelican

Fairly new to kf,started with pelican castaway 10',good value tracks well even in wind and current added bow and mid platform deck hatches hull seems strong. The only thing i would change is the stern deck rigging set up. Instead of what came with it,i will change to eye pads and hooked ends on bungee, the criss cross pattern does not make easy to srap down my crate and cart. Been out about 4 times so far on castaway and overall very happywith this yak and would recomend.

Good Kayak

First of all, I would like to say I don't own this exact kayak. I own the Pelican Apex 100. However, these two kayaks are made using the exact same mold. Everything is the same on the two kayaks except the three rod holders, and the color. So I will be able to review everything except for the rod holders. First, the stability is average. When you first get in, it is a little rocky, but after about 10 min. it is fine. It tracks pretty good for a kayak its size. And it also has good storage on the boat. I have had no problems with the Ram-x material that the hull is made of. Overall, this is a great kayak. If your looking into beginner kayaks, the Castaway is a good one to consider.
